Plagiarism Policy

The editorial board of Al Qadr: Journal of Qur’anic Science (AQS) firmly upholds that plagiarism, in any form, is an unacceptable academic misconduct. Therefore, Al-Qadr: Journal of Qur’anic Science establishes this plagiarism policy to outline clear definitions, procedures, and sanctions for plagiarism cases identified during the review or publication process.

Prior to submission, authors are strongly encouraged to check their manuscripts using reliable similarity detection tools. Each accepted manuscript will be rechecked by the editorial team to ensure originality before publication.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person’s ideas, data, or words—either intentionally or unintentionally—as one’s own, without appropriate acknowledgment of the original source. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Copying sentences, paragraphs, or figures from other works without citation;
  • Rephrasing another person’s ideas or data without proper attribution;
  • Submitting previously published work as new (self-plagiarism);
  • Using data, tables, or figures from other publications without permission or citation.

This definition applies regardless of the source, authorship, or whether the copied material is textual, graphical, or conceptual.

Author Responsibility

All authors listed in a manuscript are equally responsible for ensuring the originality of their work. By submitting to Al Qadr: Journal of Qur’anic Science (AQS), authors confirm that:

  • The submitted manuscript is original and has not been published or is under consideration elsewhere;
  • Any material derived from other works is clearly cited;
  • They have obtained necessary permissions for any reused material.

If plagiarism is detected, all authors will be subject to the same sanction without exception.

Plagiarism Detection and Tolerance

All submitted manuscripts will be screened for plagiarism using anti-plagiarism software.The acceptable similarity index for Al Qadr: Journal of Qur’anic Science (AQS) is a maximum of 25% (excluding references, quotations, and methodological similarities). Manuscripts exceeding this threshold or showing inappropriate textual overlap will be reviewed and handled according to the following levels of plagiarism:

Minor Plagiarism

Involves small portions (e.g., short sentences or limited paragraphs) copied from other works without significant data or ideas. The authors will be warned and required to revise the manuscript and properly cite the original source.

Moderate Plagiarism

Involves substantial sections (e.g., multiple paragraphs or significant data) copied without appropriate citation or acknowledgment. The manuscript will be rejected automatically, and the authors may be temporarily banned from submitting to the journal.

Severe Plagiarism

Involves extensive reproduction of data, results, or ideas from other sources, including verbatim copying or republishing previous works as new. The manuscript will be rejected, and the authors will be permanently banned from submitting future works to Al Qadr: Journal of Qur’anic Science (AQS).

Handling of Self-Plagiarism

Self-plagiarism occurs when authors reuse substantial portions of their previously published works without proper citation or acknowledgment.

  • If the overlap is less than 10%, authors will be asked to revise.
  • If the overlap is between 10–50%, it is considered moderate self-plagiarism and will lead to rejection.
  • If more than 50%, it is treated as severe plagiarism and subject to permanent ban.

Authors may reuse small parts of previous works (e.g., methods or theoretical background) if properly cited and clearly differentiated from new contributions.

Editorial Actions and Record Keeping

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board are responsible for making final decisions regarding plagiarism cases. The journal’s layout editor maintains a confidential record of sanctioned authors to prevent resubmission.

If plagiarism is found after publication, the article will be formally retracted, and a notice will be issued on the journal website.
