A correction is published when a published article contains an error or omission that should be amended openly, but the article as a whole remains reliable. The editorial response depends on the effect of the error, not only on whether the error originated with the authors or with the journal.
1. When a correction is appropriate
A correction must not be used to disguise findings that cannot be trusted. If a change to the conclusions is significant, the editor must decide whether a correction is still adequate or whether a retraction is needed. Authorship eligibility and agreement follow the authorship section above.
2. Requests and assessment
Authors or readers should send the article DOI, the affected passage or item, the proposed amendment, and an explanation. Authors must report promptly any significant error they discover themselves. The responsible editor assesses the effect of the error and may seek responses from the authors or independent advice. Where the evidence points to a wider integrity problem, the matter proceeds under the Integrity Investigations policy.
Author agreement is sought where appropriate, but it does not give the authors a veto over a necessary correction.
3. Correction notice
A formal correction identifies the article, describes the error and the amendment, and explains any effect on interpretation or conclusions. It is dated, clearly labelled, freely accessible, and permanently linked to the affected article.
Minor typographical or technical changes with no material effect may be recorded as a version note or an administrative update. Substantive amendments must never be made silently.
Requests to correct an author's name, including identity-sensitive changes, are handled with respect and with appropriate privacy safeguards. Public explanations should not reveal earlier personal information or the reasons for the change unnecessarily.
The handling of article files, versions, metadata, and dissemination follows the Scholarly Record Updates policy. Correction requests should be sent to [almuhafidzjurnal@gmail.com].
